County engineer explains proposed permissive license plate fee increase

A proposal to increase the permissive motor vehicle license plate fee next year is being considered to raise money for road improvements funded by the Lucas County engineer’s office.

At the July 17 meeting, Keith Earley, county engineer, addressed the trustees regarding the proposal which is allowed, following passage of section 4504.24 of the Ohio Revised Code.

The new regulation permits boards of county commissioners to levy an annual license tax “upon the operation of motor vehicles on the public roads and highways in that county for any authorized purpose.”
