Dear Editor:
We, as residents of the Perrysburg community, are dismayed by the controversy regarding the Commodore property. Both of our families chose to live here, two and three decades ago, respectively, based primarily on its historical ambiance. This feeling was prompted by its location on the Maumee, its multitude of elegant, well-preserved period homes, and the pride evident in downtown Perrysburg.
Through the years, during which we have both enjoyed and contributed to this community, we have observed with pride the efforts toward maintaining its historical heritage through preservation and new construction. The Way Library, the Municipal Building, the Municipal Court, the Police Division, the updating of storefronts, and the emerging streetscapes on Louisiana Avenue are all examples of the continued vision.
Needless to say, we were excited and encouraged by the possibility of the Commodore property remaining an historical treasure within a proposed urban village. We envisioned this mixed-use concept, if done professionally, as a perfect blend of past and future.
As new members of the retired community, we would welcome the option to live, eat, and shop in our immediate surroundings. Perhaps, we could even procure professional services in the complex.

Dear Editor:
Dear Editor: Once again, we were left out.
The Muster on the Maumee article in the June 11, 2008, issue of the Perrysburg Messenger Journal, listed the various soldier groups to be re-enacted this past weekend … Roman Legionnaires, Vikings, American Revolution soldiers, Indians, Cowboys, Civil War, World War I and II, and Vietnam.
Remember what has been earned the title of the “Forgotten War”?
I bet there are many dozen Korean War veterans in the greater Perrysburg area who haven’t forgotten.
